July Hike – Oyster Dome
Our July hike will be to Oyster Dome, a rock promontory with wonderful views about 20 miles South of Bellingham. The hike is approximately 5 miles round trip with about a thousand feet of elevation gain. This popular trail is mostly forested and well-maintained with some steep sections but nothing overly difficult. The payoff is the amazing view from the top looking out toward the San Juan Islands and the Olympic Mountains. This will be a great lunch spot so bring a sandwich so we can enjoy some time here.
To carpool, let’s meet outside the Watershed Pub & Kitchen next to the Northgate Park ‘n Ride lot at 9:30 AM on Tuesday July 16. The drive is typically about 1.5 hours so we should aim to arrive at the trailhead by 11 - 11:15 AM. The parking lot (Samish Overlook) can only hold 20 cars so it’d be good to minimize the number of vehicles. Also a Discover Pass is required and dogs are OK on a leash. The WTA website has an excellent description of the trail. Remember to bring plenty of water, perhaps a windbreaker, and some cash to share the gas expense. We should be back in Seattle by around 3:30 PM.
